Ok maybe a wedge of pineapple too!
Hope you all try it.

Pomegranate seed tip...
Buy them now while they are in season...Their season is short..
I will buy MANY ...then I will de-seed them all
In a freezer bag they go..
And wella....I have pomegranate seeds for most of the year..
I use them in smoothies all the time
They are so good for us!
Hope you all have a happy, healthy day!

Pumpkin cranberry whole grain french toast...the taste of fall!

Pumpkin cranberry whole grain french toast...
On weekends I like to make Lou a nice breakfast, this morning I tried a twist on his normal french toast.
He loved it..
Recipe is for one...just double it for more..
1 large egg
1 large egg white
1/4 cup of pumpkin puree ( not pumpkin pie mix)
splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk
pinch of salt
pinch of pumpkin pie spice mix
pinch of cinnamon
teaspoon of unsalted raw pumpkin seeds
a few cranberries for topping
1 teaspoon of coconut oil
2-3 pieces of Whole grain cranberry bread (usually this time of year your grocery stores bakery will have this available...if not look in the package bread area...just watch for trans fat..

In a small bowl whip the egg and egg white together
Add the pumpkin puree and almond milk..... stir together
Add the salt, pumpkin pie mix and cinnamon...stir
Coat your bread well with mixture by soaking each piece ...allowing it to absorb some of the mixture.
In a pan melt coconut oil
Place your coated bread into the pan and cook ...careful not to burn...:))
When done....stack each piece putting just a dab of butter ( I use a product called MELT made with coconut oil)
sprinkle with pumpkin seeds and cranberries
I used 1 tablespoon of real maple syrup over the top.
Lou thought these were a great alternative to regular french toast...I think I'll try something with pancakes next..

Hope you all have a wonderful day...Leave a comment for me so I know you are enjoying these healthy "real" food recipes.
Be well!

Healthy Ice Cream....

Healthy Ice Cream

I love ice as much as the next person does...but we all know it is not a healthy snack...
So... why not make our own :))
There are many recipes out there ...I have tweaked it to my liking..
The recipe:
One frozen banana (sliced, always peel your banana before freezing)
3 ice cubes made from light coconut milk ( from the can, make sure they are frozen before making)
Throw both in a food processor ( blender will not do)
Process until the consistency of soft serve ice cream ( no lumps)
Throw a few chocolate chips in the shoot just before done
(If you need help with this I have a video called "who needs the ice cream man")
Put in a nice serving dish ( or not)
top with a FEW chocolate chips
A tasty healthy ice cream..
I have more recipes that I will share for ice cream if I get enough response.

Banana Coconut Hot Oats...they don't have to be boring!!

Creamy Banana Coconut Hot oats...
I am not a fan of Oatmeal...but when you dress it up (in a healthy way) it is delicious...
I hope you will try this yummy recipe
1/3 cup of Oats
1/3 cup coconut water
2/3 cup of  unsweetened Coconut milk
1/2 ripe banana
1 Tablespoon Chia seeds
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a pan mix oats, coconut water and milk
While waiting for mixture to boil...take half of the halved banana and mince it
when mixture starts to boil add the minced banana
with a whisk whip mixture...(constantly)
add the chia seeds and vanilla (continue to cook and stir for remaining time..5 minutes)
place in a pretty bowl...:))
add toppings...
1 Tablespoon almond butter
shaved unsweetened coconut
raw cacao
 the rest of the banana..
These Oats will not be thick...the banana gives them a creamy texture!

According to "my fitness pal"...this has about 400 calories (good calories)
I believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
I also like to eat the majority of my calories early....I burn them off throughout the day!
Of course you can cut the calories by using a 1/2 T of Almond butter, using water instead of coconut water...

Kids will love this...Lou loves them too!
Let me know what you think...will you try them?
If you like these kinds of recipe ideas....let me know in the comment section..

Only the best lemonade EVER!!

Hello beautiful peeps....
This is such a good fresh juice ...taste just like fresh lemonade
all you need:
2 Golden delicious apples (these taste the best)
1/3 of a lemon with peel on...(try to get unwaxed or wash really well)
Juice the apples and lemon (pack the shoot layering the lemon in between the apples..pack it tight)
Pour over ice and enjoy..
This recipe is one from the juice master of the UK Jason Vale...
I have had this almost every morning ( first thing)...
Why do I juice this when I have a Vitamx that will juice it too...
Your body immediately absorbs all the enzymes and goodness when juicing!
I love whole food smoothies too...but juicing is like a shot of health..

Double chocolate mint protein shake!

This is a tasty protein shake!  You can use whatever type of protein powder you prefer (raw, soy, rice, whey)..I use a pharmaceutical grade whey that can be purchased online.  It is by far the most flavorful whey protein powder I have tasted. It does not give me gas or constipate ( I know a little to much information but it is important to know)...I grow mint in my garden ( add as much as you like)...I have photographed all ingredients above just in case you were wondering the ones I use and prefer!
I also added about a teaspoon of Extra virgin coconut oil to my smoothie ( coconut oil helps in losing weight ...believe it or also helps to make the smoothies creamy!)  Ok now for the recipe:
I used:
8 oz. of Almond breeze chocolate almond milk ( unsweetened only)
1 scoop of chocolate protein powder (about 1/4 cup)
2 tbsp. of raw cacao ( Navista naturals)
1tbsp of chia seeds ( no need to grind these)
1tbsp of hemp SEEDS (not powder)
15 fresh mint leaves ( more if you really like mint)
1 teasp. EV Coconut oil
5-6 ice cubes
Throw everything in your blender mix until smooth!

Below I will put the links for the raw cacao and the protein powder I use : just click on the link it will take you to each site!    Protein powder ( It is expensive)
All other items can be purchased at your local health food store or in the natural food section of your local grocery store!

You can even have pizza ...if you make it yourself!

This is my niece Adriana...she loves to come and help me in the kitchen...we make our own healthy pizza's.....I do this every friday for Lou and I.....all it takes is imagination...Here we made a veggie pizza......the dough is from our local grocery store ( it is a basic dough with no trans fat in it) can make your own dough if you have the time...I use a white dough here because the kids do not like wheat...I cut fat down by using low fat cheese ( fat free does not work well here)....we are able to add a ton of flavor with our seasonings( I really like Williams- Sonoma's pizza spice)...artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, spinach, roasted tomatoes and sauteed mushrooms....if you like pepperoni buy turkey or less fat can use red onion, sweet peppers or hot pepper rings ( just remember healthy, if you like sausage ues a turkey or chicken sausage instead)...I use a pizza stone...the heat works best high (450')....the cooking time for my oven is usually 9-10 minutes...when I pull it out of the oven I sprinkle it with just a touch of parmesan cheese....delicious!!  My family (sisters,  brothers and their kids love my pizza nights!)...yours will too....without blowing your healthy eating habits ( notice I did not say diet)...

* You can also use a marinara sauce for the sauce...Lou and I do not like much sauce on our pizza.  Marinara sauce does add some great flavor to the pizza!!

Hope you will give it a try...Have a happy day!  Bisous!  Tammy

(these bagels are in the frozen health or nature market section)
2 slices of beefsteak tomato and 3 slices of avocado
                                                         salt and pepper to taste!
                                                        Grapes and strawberries!

1 lemon (peel yellow skin off leaving as much white pith on)
1 apple ( sweet...not a granny smith)

Fight the Negative Effects of Sugar in Your Skin

Posted Monday, July 02, 2012 by Anjelle Ruppe, Contributing Writer

Sure, you know that sugar isn’t exactly the best ingredient to consume on a daily basis, after all, it's bad for your figure and can also cause wrinkles.

That's because sugar molecules in your system attach to fats and proteins in a process called glycation, which leads to advanced glycation end products, commonly called AGEs, that cause protein fibers to become stiff and malformed.

Unfortunately, the proteins in your skin that are most prone to glycation happen to be the same ones that make a youthful complexion plump: collagen and elastin. During the process, they become discolored, weak and less supple, which then shows up on the skin as wrinkles, sagginess and a loss of radiance.

What's worse, these external signs start to show up around the age of 30 to 35, when sun damage, environmental oxidative stress, hormonal changes and the development of AGEs begins to result in fine lines.

It’s important to note that refined sugar is not the only culprit. Whole grains, fruits and vegetables also turn to glucose when digested, although there is less damage and these foods are necessary for our health. So, we shouldn’t completely eliminate all types of sugar from our diets. Thankfully, there are some options to fight off the unwanted results of glycation.

With regards to your diet, stay away from white sugar and high-fructose corn syrup, which studies have found increase the rate of glycation by 10 times, along with simple carbs. You can also take supplemental carnosine, an amino acid that has been shown to protect against AGE buildup.

Skin care is also important to slow glycation. Products that contain viable AGE fighters began to appear five years ago. Now that glycation is widely known as a major cause of aging, there are plenty of anti-aging creams containing AGE fighters, too. Green tea has been proven to significantly interfere with the glycation process, while it also stimulates collagen synthesis. So, use a product that contains this antioxidant-rich ingredient, or drink it regularly, to protect your skin from glycation.

“Anything that stimulates the fibroblasts to build new collagen is going to help eradicate damage,” says New York dermatologist Fredric Brandt, MD, who also notes that retinoids and some dermal fillers fall into this category as well.

A couple of products that fight glycation in the skin are SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex ($86) which targets advanced glycation end products with blueberry extract and Amore Pacific Time Response Skin Renewal Serum($500), which harnesses the antioxidant and collagen-restoring powers of green tea stem cells.
